Maschinenhalle, Hamburg

2015

in collaboration with Jakob Grelck, Jenny Kurth and Justus Menten

The building is part of the waterworks complex, located oustide of the city of Hamburg. The intervention consists in keeping the original structure untouched and inserting in the building shell all the functions (bathrooms, stairs, shafts, closet, chimney and laundry) as concrete blocks.
The areas between the concrete objects will generate the entrance, living, cooking, dining and working spaces. Furthermore, little level changes between these spaces will give a more human scale to the huge maschinery hall.
In the upper floor are situated the sleeping rooms, enclosed in rough concrete boxes.
